One Thing at a Time!

Filed under: Uncategorized @ 7:09 am

Welcome! I want to challenge you to learn at least 23 new things this year! Two quotes by Roger Von Oech seem appropriate for the beginning of this challenge. The first is: “It’s easy to come up with new ideas; the hard part is letting go of what worked for you two years ago, but will soon be out-of-date.” So much of what we as educators do is outdated, even though it worked last year or year before. If we don’t keep learning and changing our strategies, the opportunity to reach our students in meaningful ways will pass us by. Segue into the second Von Oech quote: “Everyone has a ‘risk muscle.’ You keep it in shape by trying new things. If you don’t, it atrophies. Make a point of using it at least once a day.”

Now it’s time to begin your challenge.  Click on the link below to take you to a challenge.  Challenges vary in difficulty and in the time it will take you to complete them.  Some may be accomplished in thirty minutes while others may take days.  You may go through them in whatever order you choose, but we’ve listed them in a logical progression here, so it may make better sense if you begin with challenge one and go straight through.  You have all year to finish, and when the year ends, I guarantee you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment.

Each of the Things has instructions.  You’ll post your thoughts, share a creation, or link to something you’ve done.  Work through all the posts for a special opportunity at the end of the year!
